Students enrolled in our private lesson program will get to work towards the option to perform at our wonderful concerts hosted at C’est What (We deeply encourage students to perform as it is always a fantastic, supportive environment and a great opportunity). Aside from the concert, the students can work towards getting better and more confident with their instruments and/or voice.

Students can take half hour or whole hour lessons. Half hour lessons are great for younger students or students that have a lot of time commitments. An hour lesson is an excellent choice for a student who really wants to hone their musical talent on a specific instrument.

There are Three Semester during the year (as we follow the educational systems calendar).

We also offer Summer Camps.

While still focusing on proper vocal technique and warm ups, our vocal teachers encourage students and their parents to suggest and bring in contemporary song suggestions. During a lesson, voice students will work on their own versions of their favourite songs or their original creations.

Our drum expert approaches all lessons with the utmost focus, committed to helping students reach their full potential. Incredibly skilled and dedicated to his craft, there isn’t a pop song that he doesn’t know or will not learn. Well versed in all genres of music, John provides students with the support they need to play the music they want. His ability to transcribe drum lines from songs makes reading music and playing to student’s favourite songs an enriching experience.

The guitar is arguably the most popular instrument on the planet. All of the different parts of the guitar can be used to write songs. Beyond the Beats guitar program offers teachers who are all relevant in the music industry as musicians. Students will find them selves being taught in soundproofed guitar booths equipped and ready to go for any genre of music.

The piano is one of the most expressive instruments in the world and can be used for so many different purposes, and genres of music. It is often the first instrument of choice for students. Learning piano opens up a whole other world when it comes to other instruments. There is no better way to learn harmony than playing the piano. Whether it be drums, guitar, bass, you should at least play it at a grade 6 level. It improves ability to read bass and treble clef, it improves your ability to arrange music, and chord structure. Our piano program has teachers that nurture younger students and other teachers here to help advanced students.

Based on the Suzuki method, we approach private lessons with professionalism and expertise, which helps students to enjoy playing classical music. In addition to this classic way of approaching violin lessons, we also make sure to include a focus on popular and folk music to exaggerate the versatility of the instrument.

Thanks to the versatility of our teachers, Beyond the Beat’s folk music program is extensive. Among our many teachers who have experience in folk music, Rob McLaren, our mandolin teacher, plays folk music professionally and often tours with his band (you can read more about Rob and his music endeavours here). At Beyond the Beat we are so happy to be able to teach folk styles on multiple instruments in addition to being able to teach lessons on mandolin. With the huge repertoire of folk music available, we encourage students to enjoy playing this genre as there is no other that is as social and as fun as folk.
